Noun, Noun Phrase or Noun Clause as the complement of a linking verb

C.  Noun, Noun Phrase or Noun Clause as the complement
     of a linking verb-
When a word, a group of words (phrase), or a clause is used in a sentence as the compliment of a linking verb is called noun, noun phrase, or noun clause respectively.
Examples:
1. He is a student.
   In the above sentence, the word ‘student’ expresses a
   common name and is used as the complement of linking verb
    ‘is’.     So it is a noun.

2. Mr. Rahman is our English teacher.
    In the above sentence, the phrase ‘our English teacher’
    expresses a common name and is used as the complement
    of the linking verb ‘is’.   So it is a noun.


3. He seems to be better today.
    In the above sentence, the phrase ‘to be better today’
    expresses the name of an event and is used as the
    complement of the linking verb ‘seems’.
    So it is a noun specially noun infinitive.

4. This car is to sell.
    In the above sentence, the phrase/infinitive ‘to sell’
    expresses the name of an event  and is used as the
    complement of the linking verb ‘is’.
    So it is a noun infinitive.

5. Sue is to meet her doctor today.
    In the above sentence, the phrase ‘to meet her doctor’
    expresses the name of an event and is used as the
    complement of the linking verb ‘is’.
    So it is a noun phrase specially noun infinitive.

6. The truth is that he was innocent.
    In the above sentence, ‘that he was innocent’, the group
    of words including a finite verb or clause tells us the name
    of an event and is used as the complement of linking verb  
    ‘is’.    So it is a noun clause.


7. That is why I came early.
    In the above sentence, ‘why I cameearly’, the group of
   words including a finite verb or clause tells us the name of an
   event and is used as the complement of  linking verb ‘is’.
   So it is a noun clause.

8. My idea is that he’ll never come back.
    In the above sentence, ‘that he’ll never come back’, the
    group of words including a finite verb or clause tells us the
    name of an event and is used as the complement of linking
    verb ‘is’.   So it is a noun clause.

Explain the followings as above:
14.  My hope is that I may be an honest man.
15. His hope is that he can lead an honest life.
16. Karim’s ambition is that h’ll be a doctor.
17.  My expectation was being a teacher.
18.  His ambition is making a good result.
19. His aim in life was being a politician.

20. His ambition was that he’d be a scientist.
21. My ambition was that I’d make a good result.
22. Rahman’s ambition was that he could serve the oppressed
23. My belief is that he’ll succeed.
