Usage of Clause & Phrase

Difference between Clause & Phrase:
Clause : When a group of words containing a finite verb acts in a                   sentence as the part of it is called clause.

Phrase: When a group of words without containing a finite verb                    acts in a sentences as the part of it is called phrase.

1. I know where he lives.           Clause : where he lives. 
I know his living place.              Phrase : his living place. 
Or, I know his residence.             Phrase: his residence.

2. I know the man who is honest. Clause:- who is honest.
I know an honest man.                  Phrase:  an honest man.

3. As he was honest, the man was rewarded. 
                                                       Clause : As he was honest
Because of his honesty, the man was rewarded.    
                                                      Phrase: Because of his honesty.

4. When he’ll arrive is uncertain. Clause: When he’ll arrive.
His arrival time is uncertain.        Phrase: His arrival time.

5. I know what his father’s name is.  
                                                 Clause: what his father’s name is.
I know his father’s name.        Phrase: his father’s name.

6. My ambition was that I’d make a good result. 
                                             Clause:  that I’d make a good result.
My ambition was to make a good result.  
                                             Phrase:  to make a good result.  

7. The mango which comes from Rajshahi is sweet. 
                                Clause: which comes from Rajshahi.
The mango coming from Rajshahi is sweet. 
                                Phrase: The mango coming from Rajshahi.

8. The bed that / which I slept in last night wasn’t very comfortable.
                                 Clause:  that / which I slept in last night.
The bed wasn’t very comfortable for me to sleep in last night.                                     
      Phrase: for me to sleep in last night. 

9. The child was afraid that he’d fall down. 
                                    Clause : that he’d fall down.
The child was afraid of falling down.   
                                    Phrase :  of falling down.

10. Angela got married when she was 25.  
                                   Clause:   when she was 25.
Angela got married at the age of  25. 
                                   Phrase: at the age of 25.

11. The door bell rang while we’re asleep. 
                                  Clause: while we’re asleep.
The door bell rang at the time of our sleeping.
                                  Phrase: at the time of our sleeping.
Or, The door bell rang during our sleeping time  
                                 Phrase: during our sleeping time


Note: Phrases and Subordinate Clauses are used in the sentences 
          as the part of speech. 
If we want to change the sentence into Negative, Interrogative 
or another only main clause will be changed but not subordinate clause or phrase.  
Say for example;
The door bell rang while we’re asleep. 
Negative: The door bell didn't ring while we’re asleep. 
Interrogative: Did the door bell ring while we’re asleep? 
Question tag: The door bell rang while we’re asleep, didn't it

The door bell rang at the time of our sleeping.
Negative: The door bell didn't ring at the time of our sleeping.
Interrogative: Did the door bell ring at the time of our sleeping? 
Question tag: The door bell rang at the time 
                        of our sleeping, didn't it?
