Usage & Classification of Clauses

** Clauses are mainly two types.
    They are—
A. Principal clause or main clause or independent clause
and this type of clause can make a complete sense
e.g.
I know a man. It makes a complete sense.
The man is an architect. It makes a complete sense.
B. Subordinate clause or, dependent clause

and this type of clause can’t make a complete sense but make an incomplete sense and become a part of complex sentences.
e.g.
I know the man ‘who can speak English and French’.
আমি লোকটিকে চিনি যে ইংরেজি এবং ফরাসি বলতে পারে।
    * ‘who can speak English and French’ is subordinate clause.
But,  ‘I know the man’ is  main clause/ principal clause.

The man who lives in the next door is an architect;
যে লোকটি পাশের ঘরে বাস করে সে একজন স্থাপত্যকৌশলি।
* ‘who lives in the next door’ is subordinate clause.
But, ‘The man is an architect’ is main clause.

There are three types of subordinate clauses.
They are —
1. Noun clause,
2. Adjective clause/Relative clause, and
3. Adverb clause.
