Usage & Classification of Clauses
** Clauses are mainly two types.
They are—
A. Principal clause or main clause or independent clause
A. Principal clause or main clause or independent clause
and this type of clause can make a
complete sense
e.g.
I
know a man. It makes a complete sense.
The
man is an architect. It makes a complete sense.
B. Subordinate clause or,
dependent clause
and this type of clause can’t make a complete sense but make an incomplete sense and become a part of complex sentences.

e.g.
I know the man ‘who can speak English and French’.
আমি লোকটিকে চিনি যে ইংরেজি এবং ফরাসি বলতে পারে।
* ‘who can speak English and French’ is subordinate clause.
But, ‘I know the man’ is main clause/ principal clause.
* ‘who can speak English and French’ is subordinate clause.
But, ‘I know the man’ is main clause/ principal clause.
The
man who lives in the next door is an
architect;
যে লোকটি পাশের ঘরে বাস করে সে একজন স্থাপত্যকৌশলি।
* ‘who lives in the next door’ is
subordinate clause.
But,
‘The man is an architect’ is main clause.
There are three types of
subordinate clauses.
They
are —
1. Noun clause,
2. Adjective clause/Relative
clause, and
3. Adverb clause.
Usage of
subordinate clauses:-
Formation : A linking word +
a complete sentence.
Linking word টি হতে পারে that, what,
who, how, when, where, which, etc. অর্থাৎ যে কোন Relative Pronoun or
Relative Adverb01. ( See Appendix one).
