Adverb Clause of Manner

1. Adverb Clause of Manner
This type of subordinate clause tells us how the action occurs/happens in the main clause and generally starts with as, as if, how, however, like etc.
এ ধরনের subordinate clause,  main clause এর ক্রিয়া  সংঘটিত হওয়ার ধরন সম্পর্কে বলে। সাধারণত as, as if, how, however, like ইত্যাদি দিয়ে বাক্য শুরু হয়। যেমন
 
1. He tried to do it as I was doing.
আমি যেভাবে করতেছিলাম সে এটা এভাবে করার চেষ্টা করেছিল। 
 In this sentence subordinate clause ‘as I was doing’ tells us
‘how did he try to do it?’ in the main clause.
So ‘as I was doing’ is Adverb clause of manner.

অর্থাৎ  এ বাক্যে subordinate clause ‘as I was doing Principal/Main Clause এর ক্রিয়ার ধরন সম্পর্কে বলে দেয়। তাই as I was doing কে Adverb Clause of Manner বলে।   

You can start this sentence with subordinate clause
As I was doing it, he tried to do.
In this case you’ve to push a comma at the end of the subordinate clause.
আবার উক্ত বাক্যটি subordinate clauseas I was doing দিয়ে শুরু করা যেতে পারে সেক্ষেত্রে subordinate clause শেষে একটি কমা বসবে।

2. It has happened as I expected.
Or, As I expected, it has happened.
আমি যেভাবে প্রত্যাশা করেছিলাম ইহা সে রকম ঘটেছিল।  
এখানে As I expected’ Adverb Clause of manner, Main Clause এর ক্রিয়া সংঘটিত হওয়ার ধরন সম্পর্কে ধারনা দেয়।
 অর্থাৎ Main Clause এর ক্রিয়ার ধরন কে How দিয়ে প্রশ্ন করলে আমরা Adverb Clause of manner পাবো।   
Question: How has it happened?
Answer: As I expected.
 
3. She cooks as her mother does.
তার মা যেমন ভাবে রান্না করে সে তেমন ভাবেই করে।
এখানে ‘As her mother does’ means As her mother cooks’ Subordinate Clause টি Main Clause এর ক্রিয়ার ধরন বুঝায়। তাই এটিকে Adverb Clause of Manner বলা হয়।
অর্থাৎ Main Clause এর ক্রিয়ার ধরন কে How দিয়ে প্রশ্ন করলে আমরা Adverb Clause of manner পাবো।   
Question: How does she cook? 
Answer: As her mother cooks. 

** Thus we can practice with the following sentences and find out the Adverb clause of Manner.
If you ask a question, how the action occurs in the main clause. In reply you will get the Adverb clause of manner.
(এভাবে আমরা নিচের বাক্য গুলো থেকে Adverb Clause of Manner খুঁজে বাহির করতে পারি।
তুমি যদি main clause এ ক্রিয়া কিভাবে সংগঠিত হয় এ প্রশ্ন কর উত্তরে Adverb Clause of Manner পাবে।)

4. You can do it as you please.
তুমি যেমন ভাবে খুশি এটা তেমন ভাবেই করতে পার। 
Question: How can I do it?
Answer: ‘as you please’
So, ‘as you please’ is Adverb Clause of Manner.

5. Save as much as you want to invest.
তুমি যতটা বিনিয়োগ করতে চাও ততটাই সঞ্চয় কর।  
Question: How much do I save?
Ans. ‘as you want to invest’
So, ‘as you want to invest’ is Adverb Clause of Manner

6. He talked as if he were a mad.
সে এমন ভাবে কথা বলছিল যেন সে পাগল হয়ে গিয়েছিল। 
Question: How did he talk?
Ans. ‘as if he were a mad’
So, ‘as if he were a mad’ is Adverb Clause of Manner.

8. Do to the others as you would be done by them.

15. He has been describing the occurrence as if he were
      present there.

18. He behaved with us as if he was annoyed.
19. He walked to us as if he was bored.
20. He tries to play as his coach is showing.
21. You should have done it as I showed you.
22. They have done as they promised.
 23. The house looks as if it is going to fall down.
24. Ann sounded as if she had a bad cold.
25. You look as if you haven’t a slept.
26. It sounds as if they are having a party.
27.  Ann ran as if she was running for her life.
28. It smells like someone has been smoking here.

In every sentence there is a couple of events and you have to understand which event is before and which one is after or at the same time.



Explanation with the given exercise:
7. He has made a result as he wanted.
সে যেমন ফলাফল চেয়েছিল তেমনটাই করেছে। 
Question: How has he made the result?  
Answer: ‘as he wanted’
So, ‘as he wanted’ is Adverb Clause of Manner.

8. Do to the others as you would be done by them.
তুমি অন্যদের প্রতি এমনটা-ই কর যেমনটা  তুমি তাদের কাছে আশা কর। 
Question: How do I do to others?
Answer: ‘as you would be done by them’
So, ‘as you would be done by them’ is Adverb Clause of Manner.

9. I was waiting there as he ordered me.
তিনি যেমনভাবে আদেশ দিয়েছিলেন আমি সেখানে অপেক্ষা করতেছিলাম। 
Question: How was you waiting there?  
Answer: ‘as he ordered me’
So, ‘as he ordered me’ is Adverb Clause of Manner.

10. Do the home work however you can do.
তুমি যেমনভাবে পার বাড়ির কাজ কর।
Question: How can I do the home work?   
Answer: ‘however you can do’
So, ‘however you can do’ is Adverb Clause of Manner.

11. He was trying to solve the problem however he can do.
সে যেভাবে পারে সমস্যাটি সমাধানের চেষ্টা করতেছিল।  
Question: How was he trying to solve the problem?   
Answer: ‘however he can do’
So, ‘however he can do’ is Adverb Clause of Manner.



12. May I go there however I can?
আমি যেভাবে পারি সেভাবে কি সেখানে যেতে পারি?
Question: How may you go there?   
Answer: ‘however I can’
So, ‘however I can’ is Adverb Clause of Manner.

13. Finish the work by the time however you can.
যেভাবে পার সময়ের মধ্যে কাজটি শেষ কর।
Question: How can I finish the work?   
Answer: ‘however you can’
So, ‘however you can’ is Adverb Clause of Manner.

14. I’ll help you however it may be possible.
যেভাবে সম্ভব আমি তোমাকে সাহায্য করবো।
Question: How can you help me?    
Answer: ‘however it may be possible’
So, ‘however it may be possible’ is Adverb Clause of Manner.

15. He has been describing the occurrence as if he were
      present there.
সে ঘটনাটির যেরূপ বর্ণনা দিচ্ছিল যেন সে সেখানে উপস্থিত ছিল। 
Question: How has he been describing the occurrence?     
Answer: ‘as if he were present there’
So, ‘as if he were present there’ is Adverb Clause of Manner.

16. He has done as if it should be done.
এটি যেমন হওয়া উচিত সে তেমনিই করেছে।
Question: How has he done it?    
Answer: ‘as if it should be done’
So, ‘as if it should be done’ is Adverb Clause of Manner.

17. He behaved as if he became a lord.
সে এমন আচরণ করলো যেন সে একজন জমিদার। 
Question: How did he behave?
Answer: ‘as if he became a lord’  
So, ‘as if he became a lord’ is Adverb Clause of Manner.

18. He behaved with us as if he was annoyed.
সে আমাদের সাথে এমন আচরণ করলো যেন সে বিরক্ত হয়েছিল। 
Question: How did he behave with you?    
Answer: ‘as if he was annoyed’
So, ‘as if he was annoyed’ is Adverb Clause of Manner.

19. He walked to us as if he was bored.
সে আমাদের দিকে এমনভাবে হেঁটে আসছিল যেন সে ছিল বিরক্ত।
Question: How did he walk to you?    
Answer: ‘as if he was bored’
So, ‘as if he was bored’ is Adverb Clause of Manner.

20. He tries to play as his coach is showing.
তার প্রশিক্ষক যেভাবে দেখাচ্ছিল সে এমন ভাবে খেলতে চেষ্টা করতেছিল।    
Question: How does he try to play?    
Answer: ‘as his coach is showing’
So, ‘as his coach is showing’ is Adverb Clause of Manner.

21. You should do it as I have showed you.
আমি যেভাবে দেখিয়েছি তোমাকে এটা সেভাবেই করা উচিত। 
Question: How should you do it?    
Answer: ‘as I have showed you’  
So, ‘as I have showed you’ is Adverb Clause of Manner.

22. They have done as they promised.
তারা যেমন প্রতিজ্ঞা করেছিল এমনটাই করেছে।
Question: How have they done?      
Answer: ‘as they promised’  
So, ‘as they promised’ is Adverb Clause of Manner.


 23. The house looks as if it is going to fall down.
বাড়িটি এমন দেখাচ্ছে যেন এটি ভেঙ্গে পড়তেছে।
Question: How does the house look?    
Answer: ‘as if it is going to fall down’
So, ‘as if it is going to fall down’ is Adverb Clause of Manner.

24. Ann sounded as if she had a bad cold.
এন এমন শব্দ করছে যেন তার একটা বাজে ঠাণ্ডা আছে।
Question: How did Ann sound?    
Answer: ‘as if she had a bad cold’
So, ‘as if she had a bad cold’ is Adverb Clause of Manner.

25. You look as if you haven’t slept.
তোমাকে এমন দেখাচ্ছে যেন তোমার ঘুম হয়নি।  
Question: How do you look?    
Answer: ‘as if you haven’t slept’
So, ‘as if you haven’t slept’ is Adverb Clause of Manner.

26. It sounds as if they are having a party.
এমন শুনাচ্ছে যেন তাদের অনুষ্ঠান চলছে।
Question: How does it sound?    
Answer: ‘as if they are having a party’
So, ‘if they are having a party’ is Adverb Clause of Manner.

27. Ann ran as if she was running for her life.
এন এমনভাবে দৌড়েছিল যেন সে প্রাণ নিয়ে পালাচ্ছিল।  
Question: How did Ann run?    
Answer: ‘as if she was running for her life’
So, ‘as if she was running for her life’ is Adverb Clause of Manner.

28. It smells like someone has been smoking here.
এমন গন্ধ হচ্ছে যেন এখানে কেউ ধুমপান করতেছে।
Question: How does it smell?    
Answer: ‘like someone has been smoking here’  
So, ‘like someone has been smoking here’ is Adverb Clause of Manner.
