** Predicative use of Present Participles

    In the passive form:

26. Rana was seen running across the road.

Present Participle: running. Modifies the Subject ‘Rana’.

27. A man was seen standing at the gate.

Present Participle: standing.  Modifies the Subject ‘man’.

28. He has been seen laughing there.

Present Participle: laughing.  Modifies the Subject ‘He’.

** Now try to find out the present participle and say which word

    it modifies in the sentence.

29. A baby has been seen crying on the street.

30. Rahim was seen getting off a bus.

31. He was seen quarrelling with others.

32. A boy was seen climbing a tree.

33. A dog was seen barking at your gate.

34. A man was seen singing a song.

35. The tiger has been seen roaring in the forest.   

** Join two sentences into a sentence by using present participle.  Five sentences are done for you.
1. He finished the book. He went to school.
= Finishing the book, he went to school.

2. I entered into the room, I went to sleep.
= Entering into the room, I went to sleep.

3. He switched off the light. He went to bed.
= Switching off the, he went to bed.

4. Rana locked the door. He went to his work place.
=Locking the door, Rana went to his work place.

5. She wore her school uniform. She went to school.
= Wearing her school uniform, she went to school.

*Now try to join the following pair of sentences into

   a sentence: First two are done.

6. A bus is running. Don’t get on it.

  = Don’t get on a running bus.

7. The baby is sleeping. Don’t disturb it.

  = Don’t disturb the sleeping baby.

8. He saw a man yesterday. He was swimming across the river.

9. Do you know the boy? He was sitting next to me in the bus.

10. I found the boy in the morning. He was standing at the gate.

11 Stephen saw something at the gate.  It was burning.

12. I saw Salma at noon. She was getting out of a car.

13. Did you see Kamal at the bus stand?

      He was talking to the police?

14. He had switched off the light.  He went to sleep.
