Adverb Clause of Concession or Contrast:
This
type of Subordinate Clause is introduced by though, although, even though etc.
and expresses reverse activity or event of main clause:-
1.
Though he is poor, he is happy.
যদিও তিনি গরীব তথাপি তিনি সুখী।
এখানে main clause ‘he is happy’
আবার Adverb clause of Contrast হলো ‘Though he is poor’ যা main clause এর বৈপরীত্য ব্যক্ত
করে।
2. Though Mr. Karim is rich,
he is unhappy.
যদিও করিম সাহেব ধণী তথাপি তিনি অসুখী।
এখানে main clause ‘he is unhappy’
আবার Adverb clause of Contrast হলো ‘Though Mr. Karim is rich’ যা main clause এর বৈপরীত্য
ব্যক্ত করে।
3. He is miser though he has
the vast riches.
যদিও তার প্রচুর ধন-সম্পদ আছে তথাপি তিনি কৃপণ।
এখানে main clause ‘He is miser’
আবার Adverb clause of Contrast হলো ‘though
he has the vast riches’ যা main clause এর বৈপরীত্য
ব্যক্ত করে।
** If you start the sentence
with the subordinate clause, you have to push a comma at the end of the
subordinate clause.
4. He has done it
though/although I forbade him.
যদিও আমি তাকে নিষেধ করেছিলাম তথাপি সে এটি করিয়াছে।
এখানে main clause ‘He has done it’
আবার Adverb clause of Contrast হলো ‘though/although
I forbade him’ যা main clause এর ঘটনার বৈপরীত্য
ব্যক্ত করে।
5. He wasn’t wearing a coat although it was quite
cold.
সে শীত বস্ত্র (কোট) পড়ে নাই যদিও অনেক ঠান্ডা।
এখানে main clause ‘He wasn’t wearing a coat’
আবার Adverb clause of Contrast হলো ‘although
it was quite cold’ যা main clause এর ঘটনার বৈপরীত্য
ব্যক্ত করে।
6. Karen got the job even
though he didn’t have the minimum qualification.
কারেন চাকুরীটা
পেয়েছিল যদিও তার ন্যূনতম যোগ্যতা ছিল না।
এখানে main clause ‘Karen got the job’
আবার Adverb clause of Contrast হলো ‘even
though he didn’t have the minimum qualification’ যা main clause এর ঘটনার বৈপরীত্য
ব্যক্ত করে।
**Again,
‘even though’ is the stronger
form of though/ although.

though the heater is on.

day though I was feeling unwell.

though the weather was stormy.
** Watch the sequence of
tense in the following sentences (with the main clause and subordinate clause).
15. I’ve recognized her from
a photograph even though I never saw her before.
The principal/ main clause is in the present perfect
tense and the subordinate clause is in the past simple/ indefinite tense. Because
the action in the subordinate clause was occurred before the action in main
clause.
16. I recognized her from a
photograph even though I had never seen her before.
The principal/ main clause is in the simple past tense
and the subordinate clause is in the past perfect tense.
Because the action in the subordinate clause was occurred before the action
in main clause.
