Adverb clause of time:
This subordinate
clause tells us when the action/ event occurs/happens in the main clause.
এ Subordinate Clause, Main Clause এর ক্রিয়ার সময় সম্পর্কে বলে।
This type of clause
generally starts with When, While, Wherever, After, Before, As soon as, No
sooner, Hardly etc.
1. There was a
phone call for you while you were outside.
Adverb clause of time: while you were outside. It tells when the action was
occurred in the main clause.
অর্থাৎ Adverb clause of time: while you were outside. Main Clause এর ক্রিয়া সংঘটিত হওয়ার সময় বলে দিচ্ছে। তাই এটিকে Adverb clause of time বলা হয়।
আবার Main Clause এর ক্রিয়াকে when দিয়ে প্রশ্ন
করলে উত্তরে Adverb Clause of Time পাওয়া যায়।
Question:
When was a phone call for me?
Answer:
‘While you were outside’.
So, ‘While you were
outside’ is the Adverb clause of Time
2. Rana was in
class eight when he was 13.
রানার বয়স যখন
তের তখন সে অষ্টম শ্রেণিতে ছিল।
Question:
When was Rana in class eight?
Answer:
‘When he was 13’.
So, ‘When he was
13’ is the Adverb clause of Time
And it tells us the
time of event occurring in the main clause.
3. Angela got
married when she was 25.
Question:
When did Angela got married?
Answer:
‘When she was 25’.
So, ‘When she was
25’ is the Adverb clause of Time
And it tells us the
time of event occurring in the main clause.
4. The door bell was
rang while we were asleep.
আমরা যখন ঘুমে
ছিলাম তখন দরজার বেলটি বেজেছিল।
or, The door bell was rang while we were
sleeping.
আমরা যখন
ঘুমাচ্ছিলাম তখন দরজার বেলটি বেজেছিল।
Question:
When was the door bell rang?
Answer:
‘While we were sleeping’.
So, ‘While we were
sleeping’ is the Adverb clause of Time
And it tells us the
time of event occurring in the main clause.

9. I’ll come as
soon as I have finished my work.
10. You will feel
better after you have had something.
11. When I phone
Ann this evening, I’ll invite her to the party.
12. When I go
shopping, I’ll buy some food.
13. I’m going to
read a lot of books when I’m in holiday.
14. I’d like to
visit the museum before I go home.
15. Wait here until
(till) I come back.
16. Don’t say
anything while Lan is here.

18. As soon as I
reached at my school, it started storming.
19. No sooner had I

Note: When the complex sentence starts with
the time clause, a coma has to push after time clause. Otherwise coma is not necessary.
21. The door bell
rang while I was sleeping.
Or, The door bell
rang while I was asleep.
Or, While I was
asleep, the door bell rang.
22. A snake bit him
while he was walking in the garden.
Or, While he was
walking in the garden, a snake bit him.
